Michael Keaton (born Michael John Douglas on September 5, 1951) is an actor. He is a 1969 graduate of Montour High School, in McKees Rocks, PA, where he was a member of the golf team. Keaton (who was persuaded to choose a stage name since there was already a Michael Douglas in the acting universe) entered the world of show business in Pittsburgh, in the 1970s. One of his early gigs was with Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, where he worked both behind the scenes and in front of the camera. Keaton began landing other small-screen jobs after a move to Los Angeles, appearing in Maude and The Mary Tyler Moore Hour and co-starring in the short-lived sitcom Working Stiffs (1979). He first became known to a wider audience after co-starring in Night Shift (1982), a comedic performance that led to more lead movie roles. One standout is 1988’s Beetlejuice, which is also Keaton’s favorite in his own body of film work. Another career milestone was his starring performance in 1989’s Batman, which earned high marks after initial fan resistance to the casting choice. A versatile actor, Keaton’s other work includes Mr. Mom(1983), Clean and Sober (1988), Pacific Heights (1990), Jackie Brown (1997), Cars (2006), and the miniseries The Company (2007). More recently, he has won critical acclaim for Birdman (2014) and Spotlight (2015).
