Jamie Foxx (born Eric Morlon Bishop on December 13, 1967) is an actor, singer, songwriter, and comedian. He is a 1986 graduate of Terrell High School, in Terrell, TX, where he was a member of the school’s basketball, baseball, football, and track teams. Foxx got his show biz start in standup comedy, in 1989, when he began using his professional name (choosing “Foxx” as a tribute to comedian Redd Foxx). Two years later, he became a cast member of the sketch comedy series In Living Color. He starred in his own series, The Jamie Foxx Show (1996-2001), for which he was also its creator, director, and executive producer. Foxx began concentrating more on film roles after that. One of his biggest performances to date is the title role in 2004’s Ray, for which he received many awards (including his first Oscar). Other notable films include Any Given Sunday, Collateral, Jarhead, Dreamgirls, The Soloist, and Django Unchained. Foxx is only the second male in Oscar history to receive two acting nominations for two different films (Ray and Collateral) in the same year. He has also found time for a successful music career and has released four top 10 albums thus far. Foxx was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007.
