Steven Tyler (born Steven Victor Tallarico on March 26, 1948) is a singer-songwriter and instrumentalist. He attended Walt Whitman Junior High School and Roosevelt High School, both in Yonkers, NY.
Tyler, whose father was a classical musician and music teacher, became interested in music himself when he was young. He drummed and sang for several local bands before meeting future bandmates Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton.
In 1970, Aerosmith was formed, with Tyler as lead singer. A rock icon by the mid-1970s, Tyler went through rehab the following decade. He and Aerosmith experienced a new surge in popularity in the 1980s, becoming bigger than ever.
In addition to his career with the band, Tyler was a judge on American Idol for two seasons and has also produced solo work. He is on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Singers and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (with Aerosmith) in 2001 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame (with Joe Perry) in 2013.
