John Francis Bongiovi, Jr. (born March 2, 1962), known as Jon Bon Jovi, is a singer-songwriter and actor. He attended St. Joseph’s High School, in Metuchen, NJ, for two years before transferring to Sayreville War Memorial High School, in Parlin, NJ. He graduated from Sayreville in 1980, where he participated in band. Bon Jovi was already playing in local bands while still in high school. His cousin, Tony Bongiovi, owned a well-known recording studio in New York City and helped him to get his first recording gig in 1980 (a track for Christmas in the Stars: The Star Wars Album). Bon Jovi formed his rock group three years later, with an acquaintance suggesting the band’s name. Launched into worldwide success in the 1980s, Bon Jovi has become one of the best-selling bands in history, and Jon Bon Jovi has branched out to release two solo albums. He has also acted from time to time, with projects including the film U-571 and a 10-episode run on Ally McBeal. Bon Jovi was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2009.
