Queen Latifah (born Dana Elaine Owens; March 18, 1970) is a rapper, actress, and comedienne. She graduated with the 1987 class from Irvington-Frank H. Morrell High School in Irvington, New Jersey. In high school she was a lead in her school’s musical production of Godspell and during her sophomore and junior years went to the state championships with her school’s basketball team two years in a row. Her senior class voted her as “Most Comical”, “Most Popular”, “Best Dancer”, and “Best All-Around”. After high school, she planned to study journalism at Florida A&M, but instead signed with a record label and released her first album All Hail the Queen. Her acting career began with the lead role of the television show Living Single. She also had several supporting roles in films like Juice, The Bone Collector and starring roles in Bringing Down the House, Last Holiday. Additionally, she provided the voice of Ellie the mammoth in the animated film Ice Age: The Meltdown.
