Dennis Carl Wilson (December 4, 1944 – December 28, 1983) was an American singer and songwriter. He attended Hawthorne High School in Hawthorne, California. He is best known as the drummer and co-founder of the band the Beach Boys (as well as the only true surfer of the group). Wilson began to develop his talents as a songwriter over the course of his brief career, with “Little Bird” (1968) being the first tune that was released. He became more involved creatively as brother Brian started to withdraw from the Beach Boys. His influence is especially evident on 20/20 and Sunflower, with each album containing four songs that he wrote. Wilson released a solo album, Pacific Ocean Blue, in 1977. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 as a member of the Beach Boys.

Awards:

  • Hollywood Walk of Fame, 1980
  • Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 1988
  • Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, 2001
