William “Bill” Paxton (May 17, 1955 – February 25, 2017) was an actor and director. He was a 1973 graduate of Arlington Heights High School, in Fort Worth, TX, where he was president of Allied Youth. Paxton made his professional acting debut in 1975, in a small role in the film Crazy Mama. He went on to have success on both the big screen and the small screen. Notable film roles include Aliens (1986), One False Move (1992), True Lies (1994), Apollo 13 (1995), Twister (1996), Titanic (1997), and A Simple Plan (1998). Paxton also was well-known to television audiences for his starring roles in the series Big Love (2006-2011) and in the 2012 miniseries Hatfields & McCoys. In addition, he directed 2001’s Frailty (in which he also co-starred) and The Greatest Game Ever Played (2005). Paxton had been cast as Detective Frank Roarke in the 2017 series Training Day and appeared in seven episodes before his untimely passing.

  • Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor for Aliens. 1987
  • Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for Apollo 13. 1996
