Carrie Frances Fisher (October 21, 1956 – December 27, 2016) was an American actress, screenwriter, author, and producer. She attended Beverly Hills High School, in Beverly Hills, CA, where she was a member of the choir. Although her first movie role was in Shampoo (1975), she became an international superstar after portraying Princess Leia in 1977’s Star Wars (a role she reprised in several sequels, although her character had been promoted to General Leia Organa for 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens). Other acting performances include the films Hannah and Her SistersWhen Harry Sally, and The ‘Burbs as well as guest spots in many television shows. Fisher was also a talented writer. Postcards from the Edge, the first of several autobiographical novels, was even adapted into a screenplay (also written by Fisher) and became a successful film. Another book, Wishful Drinking, was based on her autobiographical one-woman stage show (of the same name). She was a script doctor as well, using her writing skills to improve others’ screenplays (including The Young Indiana Jones ChroniclesSister ActSo I Married an Axe Murderer, and The Wedding Singer). Fisher had completed filming for Star Wars: Episode VIII shortly before her passing.
