Macklemore (born Benjamin Haggerty on June 19, 1983) is a rapper. After attending Garfield High School, in Seattle, Washington, he went on to graduate from Nathan Hale High School(also in Seattle) in 2001. Macklemore started getting into rap in high school. While at Garfield, he and some other students started a hip-hop group and released an album. His stage name was originally the name of a superhero that he invented for an art project at Nathan Hale. Macklemore’s first big hit, released with producer Ryan Lewis in 2013, was “Thrift Shop.” The pair have gone on to record and perform together full-time as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and the duo has received numerous awards.
