Michael Kirk Douglas (born September 25, 1944) is an actor and producer. He graduated from Choate Rosemary Hall High School in 1963, where he participated in football, track, automobile club, and art club. The superlatives section of his yearbook lists him as “most suave” and “man of experience,” among other categories. Douglas broke into acting in the late 1960s and started making a name for himself in the following decade when he was cast as the lead in the series The Streets of San Francisco. In 1975, he earned his first major producer credit when he produced the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (which later won an Oscar for Best Picture). Douglas was introduced to a new generation of filmgoers when he starred in (and produced) the 1984 hit movie Romancing the Stone, and he soon found himself in high demand. Major projects over the years have included starring roles in Wall Street, Fatal Attraction, Basic Instinct, Traffic, and Behind the Candelabra, and his list of acting and producing credits is a long one. Douglas received the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award in 2009.
