Mickey Charles Mantle (October 20, 1931 – August 13, 1995) was a professional major league baseball player. He graduated with the class of 1949 from Commerce High School in Commerce, Oklahoma. Mantle played a variety of sports in high school in addition to the one that would eventually make him famous. He was on the football, basketball, and of course, baseball teams. He was also the Assistant Editor of the school newspaper, and the Sports Editor of the yearbook and in the pre-Engineer program. His senior year, he was voted ‘Most Popular’. Mantle is known for being a power hitter for the New York Yankees for nearly 20 years. He retired from the major leagues in 1969 with 536 home runs under his belt.
