Molly Helen Shannon (born September 16, 1964) is a comic actress. She attended Hayden School, in Gates Mills, OH, where she participated in field hockey, track, and cross country skiing. Shannon began acting in the 1980s but didn’t get her big break until she joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1995. She stayed with SNL until 2001, where she became well known for her signature character, Mary Katherine Gallagher (whose school uniform is very reminiscent of Shannon’s high school field hockey uniform). During her time with SNL, she starred in the 1999 film Superstar (featuring that same character). Shannon continues to act in film and television, with projects including the film Year of the Dog and roles in Kath & Kim and Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.
