Oprah Gail Winfrey (born January 29, 1954) is a talk show host, actress, producer and philanthropist. She graduated with the class of 1971 from East High School in Nashville, Tennessee. In high school, she was part of Student Government, the Honor Society, and the National Forensic League. Her class voted her ‘Most Popular’.
At the age of 19, Winfrey began co-anchoring the local news and soon landed a daytime talk show. With a jump in ratings, she started her own production company and launched an internationally syndicated talk show. She is known as the ‘Queen of All Media’ and considered the richest African-American of the century. She is best known as host of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Chairman & CEO of The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), roles in films in The Color Purple, and, more recently, The Butler, and Selma.
