William “Smokey” Robinson, Jr. (born February 19, 1940) is an American singer-songwriter. He graduated with the class of 1957 from Northern High School in Detroit, Michigan. In high school, Robinson was on the graduation committee, played varsity football, and was voted “Most Popular” by his senior class. Robinson is best known as the lead singer of the group The Miracles who made 26 Top 10 Billboard hits. In addition, Robinson has several Top 10 hits as a solo artist like Cruisin’’ and Being With You. He later went on to become vice president of the legendary label Motown Records.
